Chinese Investors Drive Gold-Backed ETF Inflows for 14 Sessions
Chinese investors have driven 14 consecutive sessions of inflows into gold-backed exchange-traded funds, marking the longest streak in four months. This sustained demand from China, a major market, could support gold prices. The World Gold Council reported that Chinese gold ETFs saw their eighth consecutive monthly inflow in April, attracting RMB3.5 billion ($498 million), with total assets under management reaching RMB306 billion ($45 billion).
The continuous inflows into Chinese gold ETFs occurred despite international and Chinese gold prices ending April largely unchanged. The People's Bank of China also reported an 8-tonne gold purchase in April, its 18th consecutive monthly addition and the largest since December 2024. This brought official Chinese gold holdings to 2,322 tonnes. In the minute since the news was published, ![]()
