European Automakers Lose Market Share to Tesla, Chinese Rivals
European automakers are losing market share to Tesla and Chinese manufacturers. Chinese brands, including BYD and Xpeng, saw their combined market share of new car sales in 18 Western European countries rise to a record 10.7% in Q2 2026, up from 5.7% a year earlier. Tesla also increased its regional market share to 2.6% in Q2, from 1.7% a year earlier.
This shift comes as demand for electrified vehicles grows, with battery-electric, plug-in hybrid, and hybrid models making up more than two-thirds of total registrations in April. On Hyperdash, ![]()
