Nvidia is reportedly considering lower High-Bandwidth Memory (HBM) configurations for its upcoming Rubin Ultra GPU, according to TrendForce. This evaluation began in early Q3 2026. The move is driven by an expected DRAM shortage in 2027 and uncertainties regarding the validation and production yield ramp-up for 12-Hi HBM4e.

This potential change, which could involve reducing the number of DRAM stack layers, aims to prioritize I/O speed for the Rubin Ultra. HBM bit shipments are projected to grow by 50-60% year-over-year in 2027, but this is still expected to be insufficient to meet demand. On Hyperdash,
