US Deal to Develop Venezuelan Oil Fields to Displace Maduro-Tied Operators
The United States has reached a deal to develop oil fields in Venezuela. This agreement will displace operators tied to deposed leader Maduro. The deal grants North American Blue Energy Partners (NABEP) a 100-year lease for 17 oilfields holding an estimated 65 billion barrels of oil reserves. The US will take a 35% equity stake in NABEP's parent company, receive 20% of the oil production, and hold a right of first refusal for the remaining output.
This arrangement unwinds a commercial network that helped Caracas export crude to Asia despite US sanctions. Many of the fields were previously operated by Chinese or Russian firms. The move could impact global oil supply and pricing. In the minutes since the news, ![]()
